I think the X8 will only fly at up to the maximum speed limit you set, or only very slightly over, so it seems that you can set that maximum speed to 10m/s + wind speed in m/s. Running many simulations, a strategy that seems to be very close to optimal for range is to fly at 10m/s GPS speed into a headwind, and 10m/s + wind speed for the downwind leg. (2018 version) I added a couple of intermediate points, at 10m/s and 15m/s, and the spreadsheet does a simple linear interpolation from all these fixed points. I made a range estimator spreadsheet, based on the power use at four points - at hover, based on the Fimi claimed flight time, and at the lowest power speed, 8m/s, again based on the claimed endurance, and then at 12m/s and 18m/s, based on values in Aiolosimport's videos. ![]() When you're flying against a headwind, it's more efficient to fly a little above the airspeed for minimum power. ![]() I think so, and definitely when there is a little wind. So, my advice to anyone who returned their drone for a replacement: Talk to Banggood. Yes, I know 70 isnt that much (vs the price of the drone), but if you take into account the low price we paid for the X8 2020 + a refund of 70, we are talking of a drone who costed me, in the end, 328EUR. This one, any FIMI/Banggood buyer should read, it is very important! I contacted Banggood to tell them what happened (a few days later after I returned the drone to FIMi and was waiting my replacement) and they actually felt sorry for what had happened and in a huge twist. Now, two surprises: 1st, my FIMI actually came on the old 2018 version package I was actually confused and thought they made a mistake, but no, the drone inside was the 2020Ģnd surprise. Its not any company who cares this much with a customer, to the point of giving a whole new drone for free (it wasnt even they who sold it to me, so they could just tell me "tough luck", but no! 5 stars FIMI, 5 stars). So, do I recommend talking to FIMI and try to get a replacement? Yes, definetely. The drone came with the battery and 4 propellers (no controller, instructions, etc), which I immediately put on, made the initial setup and off he went! Since then, I already made 5 flights, all incredible, with perfect horizon (in fact, in mid of one of my flights it started to rain very gently, and the FIMI didnt even cared, it kept working like it was nothing). ![]() So, how was it? The packaging was really good, exemplary even (take notes banggood ), with alot of bubblewrap. till after 20-ish days it finally came to life saying my package had arrived to NL - exactly 10 days after, the drone was in my hands. the tracking code was pretty much silent. I decided then to contact FIMI and try to explain the situation: they were very nice and helpful, replied to my mails constantly (they were clearly interested) - after some back and forward, they decided to just give me a replacement with a extra battery as compensation (which I agreed on and so sent my defective unit).ĭays passed.
